about

In 1972 the "Apostleship of the Sea" (AOS), "British Sailors Society" and the "Mission to Seafarers" commissioned the building and establishment of the Seafarers centre on the Port of Felixstowe. The Felixstowe Dock and Railway company (as it was known at the time) agreed to a plot of land for the building at a nominal rental fee.
In 1973 the Centre received its first grant from the "King George`s fund for sailors"
now known as "Seafarers Uk" further grants followed including"International Transport Workers Federation"
"Merchant Navy Board"
Shipping companies and local churches. The Felixstowe Rotary club organised a sponsored mountain climb across
England, Scotland and Wales. This finally enabled the Seafarers centre to open its doors for the first time in 1976. The Felixstowe & Haven Port Seafarers Services (FHPSS) as continued to grow steadily and has a positive future watching and caring for the welfare of the Seafarers.
