Take a ferry over to Harwich and visit another famous port which has Medieval origins, it was once a strategic Royal naval base built to defend against the Napoleonic threat , and has its own pristinely preserved Fort, Fort Redoubt. Landguard Fort and Fort Redoubt are closely entwined and share a lot of history.
